Job Details

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced product leader to join our team as the Head of Audience Touchpoints.

You will ensure that the Journal creates industry-leading, member-focused experiences within and across all of our platforms and applications.

These audience touchpoints include the WSJ mobile apps, mobile web, iPad app and desktop website.

You will also oversee a product development team focused on engaging our members, as well as one focused on our professional audiences. You will guide the work of these teams based on news and business priorities and validate the work as much as possible with user data.

You will be a central product leader at the Journal, reporting to Louise Story, the Chief News Strategist/Chief Product & Technology Officer.

This role is being created as the Journal brings its product, design and engineering teams closer to the newsroom, joining them with the newsroom's Strategy unit, which consists of a handful of teams that specialize in everything from data science and new formats to reporting for young audiences and broader experimentation.

While the heads of the various touchpoints focus on their own platforms, you will be responsible for thinking about the entire on-platform user journey within and across platforms.

You must also be a key collaborator in our off-platform strategy. Cross-platform functionality will be your responsibility, in addition to the management of the touchpoint teams.

While you are responsible for leading particular platform teams, you also will have a leadership role to play within the broader Strategy-PDE unit, partnering with other leaders in the group to put a focus on great audience touchpoints central to the team's and the broader newsroom's work.

You will be expected to actively contribute to the work of other groups within the Strategy unit and work collaboratively as a teammate with fellow leaders in the unit, viewing other sub-teams' initiatives as important to your own success as a leader in the Journal's broader strategy.

Key Attributes:

  • Solid judgment and experience in evaluating and deciding what features move the needle in acquisition and engagement and also what features are needed simply to be among the industry leaders for content applications.
  • Strong experience working with and leading engineers, designers and product managers.
  • A deep passion for news.
  • Prior product and engineering management experience in a large organization, preferably a content company.
  • An openness to new ideas on development processes is helpful, as is experience working with agile and other processes.
  • A passion for understanding user needs and user data, and an eagerness to evangelize that within the organization and throughout the development process.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Collaborative spirit
  • Deep technical interest and knowledge
  • Close collaboration with others creating new technologies within Dow Jones and News Corp.
  • At least 5 years of senior product manager experience, preferably at a news organization.
  • LI-JA1-WSJ
