Your role: Chief Political Correspondent

Day to day you will: 

  • File stories for both the newspaper and Sun Online in a new merged political department
  • Ensure a high level of accurate, informed and fair journalism across the brief
  • Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources
  • Be influential in shaping and developing The Sun’s political agenda
  • Be able to identify information by categorising, estimating, recognising differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events
  • Produce both diary and off diary stories
  • Accurately dissect, analyse and contextualise an event or story or situation and co-ordinate all the elements
  • Translate complex material into its most simple form and tailor it for the relevant audience
  • Maintain an overview of complex situations
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.


What we’re looking for from you:

  • Experience on a national newspaper, agency or senior experience on a quality daily local paper.
  • Actively engage with people in other teams and departments.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Recognising and acting upon any potential legal issues and acting in accordance with the PCC Code of Conduct.
  • Self-starter that has a nose for a story and a determination to succeed
