The Job

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a busy production department; and would be reporting directly to the Head of Production.

The role will be primarily online sub-editing and quality control, with layout and sub-editing of the weekly print publication HFMWeek.

There is scope to occasionally work on other Pageant Media brands. We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative stickler for detail who enjoys supporting the editorial team to get the best out of content. We offer training and career development.

The Responsibilities:

• Sub-editing online news stories and features.
• Sub-editing and layout work on news and features for a weekly print magazine.
• Sourcing suitable images across a range of topics, primarily fund management, but including insurance, real estate and online gaming.
• Creating engaging and easy to digest data visualisations, including graphs and tables.
• Working to tight deadlines to ensure online news is published in a timely manner
• Chasing journalists for copy when necessary.
• Ensuring deadlines for publication and proofing stages are met.
• Ensuring articles published are factually accurate, with impeccable spelling and grammar, are legally watertight and copy is clear and engaging.
• Ensuring copy is published in line with Pageant Media’s house style and managing the upkeep and review of house style guidelines.
• Providing constructive feedback on copy to journalists.

Required Experience:

• Professional experience as a sub-editor on a specialist B2B, local or national news publication.
• Experience of working in a busy newsroom for an online publication with high daily output.
• Excellent subbing skills and an eye for detail.
• Working well under pressure to tight deadlines with great time-management skills.
• Eagerness to learn new skills.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.
• A proficiency in WordPress, or equivalent CMS, and InDesign and Illustrator.
• Knowledge of Infogram and Photoshop would be an advantage.
