Job Details
Country & Town House is the only luxury monthly magazine which targets the affluent double lifers who want to, and can afford to, enjoy the best of both worlds - city and country life.
Together with the monthly magazine, Country & Town House publishes seven special issues per annum: School House, Country & Town Interiors, Great British & Irish Hotels and Great British Brands together with its online portal What’s On by countryandtownhouse.co.uk.
Launched in 2007, Country & Town House now provides a highly targeted, responsive and affordable platform from which luxury brands can reach an affluent print and digital audience of 500,000 AB readers per month. Regular advertising partners include Cartier, Jaeger LeCoultre, Crockett & Jones, Hackett, Gieves & Hawkes, Patek Phillipe, Rolex & Savills.
JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Editorial Director and working closely with the Creative/Production Director, the Online Editor, the Sales Director, the Finance Director and the Features Assistant, the Managing Editor is in charge of the day-to-day operations of Country & Town House and its associated supplements.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
COPY AND EDITING:
- Generating story ideas
- Planning, assigning, editing and writing content
- Ensuring tone and style of copy is correct
- Commissioning stories (where relevant)
- Picture sourcing
- Liaising with supplement editors and sub editors
- Overseeing features and editorial assistants
- Being the day-to-day contact for editorial staff/freelance writers/photographers and handling associated questions/problems
- Ensuring brand inclusions where appropriate
- Ensuring copy filed to deadline
- Actioning commercial/editorial content where relevant
- Writing monthly press release
- Assigning advertorials to staff writers and managing sign-off process
PRODUCTION:
- Overseeing production schedules and editorial calendars
- Weekly and monthly editorial / production meetings
- Drawing up initial monthly flatplan (production assistant then does ads/checks against copy)
- Supervising monthly mailing list
- Ensuring magazine and supplements are produced on time
ADMINISTRATION:
- In charge of monthly budgets to ensure production costs come in on budget
- Collecting and filing invoices/monthly reconciliation to Finance Department
- Attending meetings on behalf of the Editorial director
- Attending creative commercial meetings where relevant
- Develop and maintain house style guide, training editorial staff members in best practice
- Providing the main link between Editorial director and online editor to ensure print content is maximised online and social media
- Having the editorial responsibility for ensuring the group editorial message is consistent across all platforms
- Working closely with the digital sales manager to create editorial digital solutions
