Role Overview

The Marketing Director will join the entrepreneurial team that delivers world-class event propositions at The Wall Street Journal.

The team creates, runs and manages successful events which convene the world's leading C Suite executives, politicians, industry experts and vertical business communities.

The Marketing Director will play a pivotal role in generating awareness, interest and demand for our events and conferences, contributing to the future new business growth of the group.

What are my accountabilities?
 

  • This position will be the key marketing partner to the Audience & Direct Marketing Director, developing and executing the marketing campaign strategy for our conferences and events;
  • Develop and execute multi-channel campaign plans to drive awareness and sales of our event propositions including: email, digital media, social, print media, direct mail, telesales, partnerships etc.;
  • Lead the Conference marketing team (4 people), working with the team to train and develop best marketing practice - including campaign planning, testing, execution and measurement;
  • Lead the Audience Development team (2 people), to identify targeted audiences for all propositions and define strategies to engage them with the relevant event roll-outs and campaigns;
  • Lead the Guest Services team (2 people), ensuring that all member, delegate and prospect inbound communications are handled to the highest standard and converted to sales where appropriate;
  • Lead by example by directly managing the marketing of key flagship events, including Tech Live, Next Up, etc;
  • Work closely with a Brand and Product Marketing team on all marketing/creative briefs, ensuring that the assets and messaging engages the target audience and drives response;
  • Identify and work with key marketing partners to deliver audiences for our events, including industry associations, membership organizations, media organizations, etc.;
  • Manage marketing budgets for all assigned conferences - monitoring the effectiveness of all activity and making timely adjustments to maximize ROI and underwrite audience targets;
  • Develop sales enablement materials for the sales team, including playbooks, email templates, sales sheets, etc.;
  • Develop and maintain clear dashboards/reports that summarize the performance of the marketing campaigns, across the pre-determined KPIs/metrics:
  • Share topline numbers weekly with the management team;
  • Measure and manage campaign costs, efficiencies and drive ROI;
  • Analyze and identify actions to drive improved performance;
  • Produce monthly reports, with optimization and recommendations, for the management team;
  • Produce post-event reporting;
  • Line management and career development of 4 people.


What do you need from me?

A self-starter with leadership qualities gained working and managing teams within a conference environment, you will be able to lead, inspire and deliver in a matrix environment.

Specifics include:

  • 10+ years' experience in a B2B or B2C marketing role. Specific experience in Conferences/Events is essential
  • Proven delivery of positive results and growth through direct marketing;
  • Demonstrated cross-functional teamwork and project management experience;
  • Distinctive problem solving and analytical mindset, with experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to guide strategy;
  • Digital marketing expertise that has driven business outcomes;
  • Analytical and data driven, but also have a passion for creativity and forward-thinking flair;
  • Have a test-learn-measure approach to everything you do. Be able to analyse results and situations, get to solutions and recommendations quickly;
  • Be able to take responsibility for initiatives and encourage a positive 'can do' attitude at all times;
  • Be able to embrace and drive change in a pacy environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, along with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Experience managing end-to-end marketing from analysis, positioning and planning through execution of successful integrated programs;
  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically;
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
