Square Mile, City Reporter

Square Mile is looking for a City Reporter to join its growing online editorial team. As the leading lifestyle magazine for the City of London, this role will be crucial for bringing the City to the squaremile.com website.

The successful candidate will be organised, driven, and bursting with enthusiasm.

Although some experience in an editorial environment (online, print or both) is preferable, this role would suit a graduate as long as they could show transferable skills.

For clarity, this is not a financial reporting role – no markets knowledge is needed – but rather focussed on life outside of work. The City is more than a collection of offices; it is a community.

Role Responsibilities:

• Your job will include previewing and reviewing City-wide events – keeping your finger on the pulse of the City’s extra-curricular activities.
• You will cover new restaurant, bar and retail openings in the City and Canary Wharf.
• You will have responsibility for compiling and editing a weekly newsletter that will preview the most exciting happenings in the City every week.
• You will also be in charge of compiling and promoting readers’ offers – including liaising with both commercial partners and venues.
• If there’s an event happening in the City, we want you there reporting on it – so photography skills would be a bonus.
• You’ll also be a key member of the social media team, helping to create and curate engaging content.
• You’ll need to build relationships with PRs, brands and venues including attending events as a representative of the brand.
• On occasion you will also have to work with the commercial team and advertisers by writing native and promotional content.
• You will also be expected to chip in with the print magazine at busier times – including writing short pieces and proofing pages.

Requirements:

• The ability to write clean, compelling copy with a distinctive voice.
• Experience in SEO, analytics, and web reporting would be a real plus.
• The ability to work both under your own initiative and in collaboration with others.
• A keen eye for the new and exciting.
• Some experience of working in an editorial environment.
• The ambition and drive to stand out in a fast-paced, busy office.
