MCA, Journalist - 12 Month FTC

ROLE OVERVIEW

MCA is a service for board level operators in the eating and drinking out sector.

This includes casual dining chain restaurants like Wagamama, Nandos and Pizza Express, food-to-go operators like McDonald’s, KFC and Five Guys, pub chains like Greene King and Wetherspoon, coffee shops like Starbucks and Costa, and more.

As a paid subscription service, MCA uncovers the news behind the news and offers insight into the headwinds, individuals and concepts shaping the sector. As such, it’s essential reading for operators, suppliers, industry watchers and analysts.

We are looking for a reporter to cover a 12-month maternity leave to break news stories, especially exclusive ones, as well as write news analysis, restaurant profiles, interview industry figures, cover new openings and report on people moves.

Strong digital and social media skills are a must as MCA is a web-first operation (with a monthly edition in print). The ability to share the team responsibility for early starts is also essential.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• To break news and populate the MCA website with fresh content on a daily basis and send out a daily newsletter.
• To write in-depth pieces like interviews, profiles and news analysis.
• To network and socialise with the industry, going to events, openings, and generate content.
• To embrace multimedia, with excellent use of social networks like Twitter to push and promote MCA content.
• To work with our Insight team to generate editorial from the data they produce.
• Contributing to the planning of content for a variety of events.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• A head for news and the determination to secure exclusives.
• A combination of confidence and calmness under pressure.
• Intelligence and excellent writing skills.
• To be comfortable networking and engaging with board level contacts to secure news and interviews.
• Multimedia skills.
• Ideally you will have experience working for another website or magazine, but if you have just graduated from a journalism course or similar, please get in touch.
