Job Details

We are recruiting a Lifestyle Editor to join our team at New! Magazine. We are looking for an experienced editor to oversee the back of book content, including real-life, fitness, food and homes.

Key Responsibilities

  • To supply live ideas every day based on the morning's news and exclusive leads from contacts.
  • To keep up with the zeitgeist on lifestyle trends/fads, from contacts, publishers, PRs and worldwide media.
  • Liaising with PRs, features agencies, TV companies, publishers and freelance contributors regarding interview and feature opportunities, collaborations and book extracts.
  • To source original real-life features - and commission when needed - to deadline every week, checking for factual and legal accuracy.
  • To liaise closely with the Reach Group Lifestyle Editor on content that can be shared across the Reach portfolio.
  • To write features and news pieces when required by the editors to a high standard and to deadline.
  • To take part in a weekly forward-planning meeting and schedule back of book features at least four weeks in advance.
  • To personally write, rewrite and edit copy to a high standard and with the right tone for the section every week to deadline.
  • Maintain a detailed forward-planning schedule, with upcoming TV shows, book launches, awareness days, anniversaries and key events.


The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience at a fast-paced magazine, newspaper or news agency and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Creativity and an ability to generate thought-provoking, emotional, informative and must-read features.
  • High level of professionalism, decision-making skills and ability to manage workload autonomously.
  • Sound judgment and initiative, with ability to make critical decisions in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent commissioning, writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Extensive contacts book of PRs, agents, experts and freelance contributors.
  • Comprehensive understanding of lifestyle topics, including true life, health, fitness, food and homes.
  • Have an excellent knowledge of the law and be aware of legal warnings.
  • Understanding of target reader and New!'s position in the weekly celebrity market.
  • Ability to contribute ideas across all areas of the magazine, in terms of weekly content, new franchises and ways to boost future readership/revenue. Must be a team player.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required.
