Job Details

We are looking for a talented self-starter who can join a dynamic team of reporters leading the way in multi-platform business media publishing.

Cognitive Publishing Ltd publish three market-leading titles, associated websites and multimedia content, with a combined audience of over 700,000 industry leaders, including politicians, health executives and rail decision-makers.

This full-time, permanent position (based in Manchester city centre) would suit a graduate reporter looking to start their career in journalism, who has completed a relevant degree or diploma course in the subject.

You will be responsible for producing fresh, original and exciting content for all the company’s brands that engages our diverse audiences with exclusive, thought-provoking ideas  and analysis.

You will be a self-starter who cultivates stories via contacts, events, press conferences, follow-ups of stories in the non-specialist media, FOIs, news releases, and those generated from research undertaken for the print titles.

You will have a hunger to learn, develop and embrace new ideas and challenges. Already living in a world of social media, you will have a grasp of SEO and be versed in multi-platform content delivery.

You will have the ability to follow analytics and trends and to come up with original content ideas and understand how to optimise those for search.

An ability to demonstrate an interest in public affairs, business and technology is essential, as well as having a good news sense and a portfolio of published articles.

You must have a concise writing style, excellent spelling and grammar, and a confident phone manner. Knowledge of the rail, NHS and public sectors would be an advantage.

The ideal candidate will be NCTJ-qualified and have 100 wpm shorthand, but this is not obligatory.

There will also be an opportunity to attend nationwide events, including major conferences, black-tie networking dinners and awards galas organised by Cognitive across the country. And therefore the candidate must be a naturally friendly and outgoing person who loves to network and draw in audiences.

The candidate will be able to work quickly and calmly under pressure and write to deadlines, working as part of a tight-knit team.

Have you got what it takes?

Email your CV, covering letter and two to three samples of your work by completing the application form below.
