Job Details

1843, The Economist’s sister magazine, is looking for a digital editor to cover maternity leave and work full time in our London office.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at The Economist and to manage and develop its online editorial content.

We are looking for a dedicated journalist, and rigorous, experienced copy-editor to help 1843 develop its online editorial strategy as well as manage the online publication schedule.

You will be responsible for commissioning and editing articles, managing the title’s social-media accounts and producing weekly newsletters.

You will work closely with the whole 1843 team, including the deputy digital editor, as well as the Economist digital news team and design team.

You will be an excellent editor with great attention to detail, with ideas about how to present material visually. Experience of working with an online CMS system is preferred.

To apply, please send a cover letter, CV, three ideas for stories that we could run on 1843magazine.com and a critique of the website by completing the application form below by 6 August.

The Economist Group values diversity. We are committed to equal opportunities and creating an inclusive environment for all our employees. We welcome applicants regardless of ethnic origin, national origin, gender, race, colour, religious beliefs, disability, sexual orientation or age.

Company

The Economist was first published in 1843 to take part in a “severe contest between intelligence, which presses forward, and an unworthy, timid ignorance obstructing our progress.”

Headquartered in London, The Economist Group today has offices and people across the globe, and is valued by its customers for its world-class insights and rigorous analysis.

Our vision of the world, our style and our whole philosophy are different. We are international, we stress the links between politics and business, we are sometimes irreverent and we are always independent. That philosophy is at the core of how we operate internally as well: at the Group you have a voice, and your voice is expected, heard and respected.

We value individuals who think differently and can challenge the status quo. Working at The Economist Group, wherever you start, you will continue to learn and develop your career.

We will encourage you to think about and explore other positions, business units and countries that will help you and the company grow. We are a global business with a global view—working with us will take you places both physically and intellectually.
