Job Details

British Vogue is looking for a talented, quick-witted and organised senior digital journalist or editor to join its team as Planning and Weekend Digital Editor.

Reporting directly into the Digital Director, the Planning and Weekend Editor will take the lead on shaping and prioritising news and events in the title’s editorial calendar.

He/she will oversee British Vogue’s digital coverage at weekends and, thus, play a critical role in the title’s growth and success at an exciting time of expansion.

The ideal candidate will be well versed in the culture, entertainment and news agenda, and have an instinct for a fresh way in to a developing story that will appeal to the British Vogue audience.

This is a wide-ranging role that involves managing the department work flow, editing copy, commissioning stories, writing and rewriting, and tracking trends and generating ideas.

Assisting with the management of British Vogue’s video content will also be an important aspect of this role, and the ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the production of video shoots as well as the scheduling, and distribution, of video content on site and social.

Excellent writing and editing skills are essential for this role, as is experience of managing more junior editors and journalists.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter who can work both autonomously and as part of a team. Social media production skills are also a must.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day planning and scheduling of stories within the digital department and contributions from the wider team
  • Head up weekend coverage across British Vogue’s digital platforms
  • Effectively manage and motivate contributors so they meet the strict deadlines set on the story calendar
  • Use the CMS to edit copy supplied by the digital-first and wider British Vogue team and create engaging SEO’d headlines and intros
  • Produce stories on a broad range of subjects
  • Assist the Digital Director with the scheduling of video content and refine the distribution of films across myriad channels
  • Where required, help the commercial team to refine their digital content offer.

Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Experience of using collaboration and organisational tools such as Trello, AirTable and Asana to maximise team cohesion and productivity
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce stories and edit to tight deadlines
  • Ability to use a variety of content management systems and working knowledge of analytics and trend-tracking programmes
  • Flexibility to work weekends on a permanent basis, in a fast-paced, digital-first way
  • Knowledge of digital audiences and our readers’ place within it
  • An interest in pop culture and all things Vogue – from film and fashion to politics and current affairs
  • An understanding of the intersection between editorial and commercial content.
