British Vogue is looking for an exceptional and innovative Executive Digital Editor to join its editorial team at an exciting time of digital expansion.

Reporting directly into the Digital Director, the Executive Digital Editor will be responsible for co-ordinating the daily editorial output across multiple platforms.

He/she will help lead a team of reporters, filmmakers and producers into the next phase of the title’s digital evolution.

The digital department is at the heart of the brand’s offices and the ideal candidate will be at the centre of the action, helping to set the Vogue ‘newsroom’ agenda and maintain production levels by enforcing copy deadlines and ensuring video and social content runs to schedule.

The role calls for a talented and hard-working journalist who can write, edit copy sensitively at speed and spot a fantastic SEO-headline hiding within a story.

Understanding British Vogue’s heritage and unique position in the current media landscape is a critical part of this role. The successful candidate will be a team player with sharp editorial judgement who thrives in a fast-paced, agile, digital environment.

They will be an exceptional communicator with experience of managing more junior journalists and editors and who can seamlessly collaborate with numerous stakeholders across editorial and commercial. Having an in-depth understanding of data analytics, social media and search engine optimisation is a must.

Forward planning is also a key part of this role. Working with the title’s Planning and Weekend Editor, the Executive Editor will play a critical part in British Vogue’s coverage of events and shows.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the workflow within the department, setting deadlines and chasing the delivery of copy
  • Edit stories at speed within the CMS and publish with engaging and appropriate headlines
  • Generate story ideas across all digital platforms and work with the digital team to refine pitches and rewrite copy
  • Work alongside the Digital Director to commission internal and external writers and contributors
  • Deputise, when required, for the Digital Director at internal and external meetings
  • Produce stories for the website on the full range of subjects in the Vogue universe
  • Use social news gathering and distribution acumen to develop ideas and inform story commissions.


Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • Exceptional organisational skills including fluency with scheduling tools and rotas
  • A background in digital publishing and thorough knowledge of the requirements of storytelling on multiple platforms
  • Extensive people management skills, ability to help inspire a team and forge new relationships within the brand and the wider industry
  • Prolific writing ability across a wide range of subjects, from fashion to film, politics to current affairs
  • The flexibility to work some weekends on a regular basis
  • Effective communication skills under pressure 
  • Sound knowledge of SEO tactics and how to use appropriately, and at speed, to maximise story appeal
  • Experience of using data analytics to inform editorial decisions
  • Experience in video production and scheduling.
