Telegraph Business is one of Britain’s leading financial and business news outlets, covering everything from the FTSE’s leading companies to the best of the UK's small businesses, from economics to technology, and everything in between.

The principal responsibility of the Associate Business Editor is to ensure the daily print section (Monday to Saturday) is published to the highest possible standards, that our content is accurate and displayed in the most compelling way.

Reporting to the Business Editor and liaising closely with key members on the desk including news, planning and digital, you will help drive the Telegraph Business team’s output. You will help commission, edit and rewrite copy, develop stories, react to breaking news, and be brimming with original ideas.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the presentation, accuracy and quality of our daily 8-page Business supplement.
  • Direct production staff, liaise with pictures and graphics, and manage the content workflow to hit deadlines.
  • Working alongside other desk editors to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Editing and rewriting stories as required to make fit for publication.
  • Attending the various inter-departmental editorial conferences as required.


Essential skills required for the role

  • Proven editing experience at the highest level of business journalism - in particular with print publications.
  • Outstanding news judgment.
  • Strong ability to edit, write headlines and to sell a story visually making best use of graphics, pictures and other formats.
  • Proven ability to spot stories and opportunities from an array of sources.
  • Experience of dealing with big name columnists and reporters, and working with journalists to make good stories better.
  • Experience of leading a team of production staff.
  • Highly numerically literate.
  • Experience of working with data and graphics teams to commission compelling graphics and illustrations.


Additional skills useful for the role

  • Understanding of digital journalism, and balancing the demands of digital/social content with print is desirable.
