Job Details

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced development producer for its New York-based global video team.

Development producers are responsible for leading the series development process, from initial series ideation to final episode delivery.

Top candidates for this position will have a strong background in digital video production, a track record of series/franchise development and execution, and a passion for journalism.

Those in the role juggle many tasks and should be excited about pitching, developing, researching and producing episodes, working in the studio and in the field, and collaborating with WSJ's reporters and editors across a variety of coverage areas.

Candidates need to show examples of successful conception and execution of digital video projects across multiple platforms.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Brainstorming ideas for original video series
  • Working with key internal stakeholders to develop development lanes for potential new franchises
  • Leading pilot creation process from initial ideation to final delivery
  • Partnering with reporters and editors across the newsroom to identify stories relevant to potential series
  • Working in-studio and in the field
  • Managing multiple projects in various stages of production
  • Ensuring that all journalistic and legal standards are followed at all times
  • Ability to work late hours and weekends both as part of a regular weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant
  • Completing additional duties as assigned


Key candidate requirements:

  • 2-3 years of experience ideating and producing new video content, especially series
  • Understanding of what engages audiences and how to create compelling video content across multiple platforms
  • Ability to convey news and tell stories in creative ways using high-quality video and graphics
  • Strong understanding of, and interest in, The Wall Street Journal's core topic areas
  • Clear communicator with exceptional written and collaboration skills
