Dow Jones Newswires seeks an experienced and speedy reporter to cover commodities markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of two-to-three years of experience reporting on financial markets, ideally in a real-time news environment.

The role requires excellent news judgement; the ability to cut through jargon and write strong, clear copy; and an understanding of the real-time needs of professional customers. Some knowledge of commodities markets will be an advantage.

The commodities reporter sits within the broader Dow Jones/Wall Street Journal London markets-reporting team and will file short-form, snappy analysis of market movements from the get-go when trading gets under way in Europe.

This reporter will inform the wider newsroom of major market moves and should have ability to build out stories to get coverage of the business day moving early, from the flash to the last word.

The reporter should aspire to generate scoops from commodities traders, investors and regulators, and to cover breaking news likely to affect the supply-demand balance.

This person will be responsible for covering key industry reports across metals, softs and agricultural commodities, and will provide backup coverage for oil and gas market coverage when the energy reporter is away.

The role provides extensive scope to report on a huge range of daily market moves and provide analysis that is vital for time-poor professional customers looking for market signals across everything from cocoa to copper, and from grains to gold.

The position offers the potential to grow into handling wider coverage of the commodities sector across all of our platforms, including The Wall Street Journal.

Journalistic skills:

• Exercises exceptional news judgment and is able to deliver fast-paced coverage of breaking markets news.
• Demonstrates the ability to write clearly for grammar, style, sense, jargon, accuracy, structure, balance and fairness.
• Draws on experience of prior financial reporting to quickly assess, prioritize and deliver headlines and analysis of market moves.
• Upholds Dow Jones standards and ethics and shows a good understanding of Dow Jones Newswires' mission and the needs of its core subscribers.
• Helps connect the content with the audience and with the broader newsroom.
• Ability to build out contacts.
• A desire to innovate and work collaboratively, both within the London newsroom and globally.
