Job Details

Dow Jones seeks a data specialist to lead its charge to create new content and leverage existing information for its premier business news publications, including The Wall Street Journal.

Based in Barcelona, the person in this position will join with a newly formed team of journalists focused on serving the needs of business and financial professionals. She or he will be responsible for leading efforts to create new content, data sets and tools for Dow Jones and its diverse platforms.

This person will work closely with the newsroom, researchers in the Dow Jones Data Strategy and Market Data groups, and developers to ensure we're fully leveraging the news, analysis and data at our disposal in the most effective ways.

Alongside the creation of new, data-rich products, we expect the person to contribute to our efforts to boost automation and enhance tagging to give our professional subscribers a deeper sense of the significance of news in real time.

The ideal candidate for this role will be highly numerate, have newsroom experience, a high-level understanding of the challenges faced by business and financial professionals and a proven track record of creativity.

The person must also be able to work collaboratively across the organization and serve as a project leader.

In assessing the ideal candidate for the role, we'll be looking for strong examples of how applicants have used a wide variety of data sources to develop new offerings.

We'll be keen to see how applicants have used in-house and open-source or commercial data sets as the foundations of new products and types of content, exemplifying the kind of 'non-story' content our professional customers might find valuable.

The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in news but also programming skills that will allow him or her to dig into large data stores and work with real-time APIs.

Candidates accepted for interview will be expected to have a rich trove of ideas and concepts to talk through.
