The National, Assistant Foreign Editor (Abu Dhabi)

We are seeking experienced journalists who are interested in being part of a multicultural team working in English to provide the best, most creative news and features from across the Middle East and around the world.

We are looking for smart, hardworking individuals with a love of journalism and a keen eye for detail.

An Assistant Foreign Editor would join our expanding international news desk in Abu Dhabi. Candidates should have a strong grounding in the Middle East with previous experience in covering regional news and experience working on a foreign desk or as a correspondent.

Candidates should have the ability to perform at all stages of the editing process, from generating ideas, commissioning stories and seeing the piece through to publication.

They should also be able to work with correspondents around the world and handle desk copy, as well as write compelling breaking news and features. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

The National is expanding its foreign coverage with a growing network of correspondents in the field as well as on desk reporters. As such, the Assistant Foreign Editor would help this expansion, working closely with writers to develop long term features, investigative reporting as well as breaking news.

The role comes with responsibilities to liaise between print and online, plan coverage, work on reporting trips and deputise for the Foreign Editor and Deputy Foreign Editor when they are absent.

The National is a web-first newsroom requiring all our reporters and editors work at a fast pace and contribute to our digital efforts. A good working knowledge of best practice in web publishing, SEO and understanding trends is useful.
