The Grocer, City Reporter
The Grocer, one of the most influential, respected and interesting business media titles in the country, is looking for a City Reporter to help develop our growing business and finance coverage.
You’ll be breaking stories of national importance across a huge, vitally important, highly political and high-profile market, which includes FTSE giants such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Ocado, multinational fmcg powerhouses including Coca-Cola, Nestle and Heineken and a host of entrepreneurial businesses bursting onto the scene.
Working in our dedicated finance team, you will be an exclusive-hungry self-starter getting the scoop on the latest M&A deals, hirings and firings and ups and downs in the City.
The role offers enormous variety, as you’ll also be writing a specialist City newsletter, opinion, blogs, features, profiles of industry big hitters and analysis of the real stories behind the headlines.
Required experience and skills
The ideal candidate is a reporter with a proven track record in breaking news, and an interest in/understanding of the business world. They may have experience of covering M&A, financial performance and C-suite strategies, but a nose for a story and an eye for detail is a must.
Above all, they must combine ambition and a strong work ethic, with the personality, curiosity, numeracy and wits to develop and work senior-level contacts.
The Grocer is the bible of the FMCG market, the flagship title of the highly successful William Reed group, a family-owned publishing, events and market research business, whose interests include operations in the UK, France and the US.
It’s a high pressure environment, but for the right candidate, it offers huge job satisfaction, a good career path, a competitive salary, as well as company benefits comprising:
- A contributory pension scheme
- Life Assurance
- 25 days’ holiday
- Discounted gym membership
- Free car parking
- Free shuttle service from Three Bridges station
- Season ticket loan (on successful completion of probationary period)
The HQ is in Crawley, just 10 minutes from Gatwick, with its fast connections to London and the world (recent trips have included Sri Lanka, South Africa, Peru, Canada, Kenya, Spain and France) and 30 minutes from the lively seaside town of Brighton. But this role would suit someone looking for remote-working options, with hot desking facilities also available in our central London office in Holborn.
