Summer 2024 The Wall Street Journal Audience Engagement Internship

locations: NYC - 1211 Ave of the Americas

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal internship program is an opportunity primarily for college juniors to work in our award-winning newsroom in New York. Seniors and graduate students enrolled in a degree program by the application deadline are also eligible to apply.

Your primary duties will include preparing statistical reports and working with audience strategists to identify and promote ways to keep our subscribers engaged and reach new audiences. This may include working closely with our social and SEO team to monitor topics of interest, running competitive analysis, and helping editors to plan coverage.

You should be a self-starter who understands the needs of our audience across multiple platforms and is able to work independently under deadline pressure. Dedication to high journalistic standards and excellent writing and reporting skills are required. A demonstrated interest in business reporting is a plus, though prior business/finance reporting experience is not required.

You should have completed at least one prior reporting internship with another professional media organization or published exceptional work with a campus news outlet or as a freelancer.

HOW TO APPLY:

  • Please upload one PDF document (max. 10MB). Your application document should contain:
  • A cover letter, including a response to the following question: Based on the 2016 and 2020 U.S. presidential elections, what could news organizations do differently to cover the 2024 presidential election? (max. 800 words)
  • Your résumé.
  • Three examples of your published work. Please include full articles, not hyperlinks.

The deadline to apply is Monday, Oct. 23, 2023 at noon Eastern time. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

TIMING:

10 weeks between mid-June and mid-August.

Only finalists will be contacted. We will review applications on a rolling basis and strive to make selections by the end of January.
