Vacancy: Senior Research Analyst II Chlor-alkali

Location: London/Hybrid

About the Role

As the Senior Research Analyst II you provide research, discovery, analysis and support the Chemical Insight group covering European chlor-alkali markets. Reporting to the Global Chlor-alkali Market Advisory Service Leader, the role will initially focus on the Southern European monthly market discovery for liquid caustic soda. Once comprehensive market understanding of Southern European markets is achieved, coverage will be expanded to the Middle East and Africa.

You Will:

  • Responsible for comprehensive understanding and analysis of the chlor-alkali market in Southern Europe focusing on liquid caustic soda as directed by the Global Chlor-alkali Market Advisory Service Leader.
  • Work with producers, buyers, traders and distributors by telephone, email and in person to conduct primary research and price discovery on the liquid caustic soda market. Research includes market dynamics, producer capacities, supply/demand balance information, trade balances, pricing, production costs, individual company analysis, market analysis and use analysis and associated econometric modelling.
  • Work with the European and other regional chlor-alkali teams to develop a cohesive view of regional European market dynamics, and global market dynamics.
  • Convert previous chemical and market industry experience and analysis into sustainable, profitable market advisory services.
  • Build and nourish personal relationships with important liquid caustic soda producer, trader and buyer contacts. Use contacts to collect market information.
  • Provide insightful reporting in the GCR which benefits existing and potential Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS (CMA) clients.
  • Independently partner with clients on areas of market expertise.
  • Develop a reputation for comprehensive understanding of the market and "go to expertise" for clients. Promptly responds to internal and external client questions.
  • Deliver market presentations in quarterly webinars and at CMA conferences including Global Chlor-alkali & Vinyls Conference and the World Chemical Forum.
  • Market the CMA capabilities in direct interface meetings.
  • Provide regular neutral and objective price inputs and written analysis for Monthly Market Advisory Service report.
  • Improve writing quality and effectiveness.
  • Develop a fundamental working understanding of CMA basic model templates of supply/demand, econometric price forecasts, and trade grids.
  • Update the production capacity database and supply-demand balances.
  • Pursue and develop approaches that provide value to CMA clients and potential clients.


You Have:

  • University degree required. Chemical engineering or chemistry degree preferred, economics is acceptable; MBA or other graduate degree is desirable.
  • Experience working in the chemical industry , including experience related to chlor-alkali, inorganics, or related chemical industries.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including English fluency.
  • Computer modelling and excel spreadsheet management skills.
  • Persuasive speaker at all client levels to small and large audiences.
