Job Details

As a reporter on the Live Blog team, you will break news to large digital audiences - working on all the biggest UK, international and political stories.

Whether it's posting live updates on the war in Ukraine or the political events of the day, attending high-profile court cases, or covering live events such as the coronation, you will spot top lines and write about them engagingly, accurately and quickly - helping us achieve our goal of being "best at live".

You will:

As a member of the Sky News blogging team, you'll…

  • Be at the forefront of breaking news to significant audiences on our website and app
  • Report live from court or significant events
  • Produce original journalism to be used in our live blogs
  • Often work independently and be expected to uphold Sky News' standards of accuracy

You have to be:

  • A first-class journalist with a track record of finding, writing and producing stories to a high standard for recognised news organisations - whether national or local
  • Experienced in handling breaking news scenarios
  • Able to produce clean, engaging copy at pace and under pressure
  • Willing to adjust your work patterns when events require

Sky News

Sky News is a world-class news service with a spirit of innovation and a fresh approach to story-telling. Our aim is to be the best and most trusted place for news, reflecting the diversity of our audience. Made by people who dare to challenge. Made for people who want clarity in an uncertain world.

The Rewards:

There's a reason people can't stop talking about #LifeAtSky. Our great range of rewards really are something special, here are just a few:

  • Sky Q, for the TV you love all in one place
  • A generous pension package
  • Private healthcare
  • Discounted mobile and broadband
  • Access a wide range of exclusive Sky VIP rewards and experiences

How you'll work:

We know the world has changed, and we want to offer our employees the chance to collaborate at our unique office spaces, whilst enjoying the convenience of working from home.

We've adopted a hybrid working approach to give more flexibility on where and how we work. You'll find out more about what this means for this role during the recruitment process.

Your office base:

Osterley:

Our Osterley Campus is a 10-minute walk from Syon Lane train station. Or you can hop on one of our free shuttle buses that run to and from Osterley, Gunnersbury, Ealing Broadway and South Ealing tube stations. There's also plenty of bike shelters and showers.

On campus, you'll find 13 subsidised restaurants, cafes, and a Waitrose. You can keep in shape at our subsidised gym, catch the latest shows and movies at our cinema, get your car washed and even get pampered at our beauty salon.

Inclusion:

We take pride in our approach to diversity and inclusion: we've been recognised by The Times and Stonewall for this, and we've committed £30million to support the fight against racial injustice. We've also set ambitious targets for increasing ethnic diversity and representation throughout our organisation.

At Sky we don't just look at your CV. We're more focused on who you are and your potential. We also know that everyone has a life outside work, so we're happy to discuss flexible working.

And we'll do everything we can to support you during your application. If you need us to make any adjustments to our recruitment process, speak to our recruitment team who will be happy to support you.

Seeing the bigger picture is part and parcel of the way we do business. That’s why we’re committed to doing the right thing and playing our part in the communities where we live and work.
Our people are critical to our success. The 16,500 brilliant people working for us make Sky what it is today and what it will be tomorrow. Our ability to meet the needs of customers, take on new challenges and achieve our goals will depend on the capability within our organisation. So our aim is to build the best possible team and give them what they need to succeed.

We want Sky to be a great place to work; somewhere where people can be their best. That means encouraging talented people to join us and helping them to realise their potential. It means fostering a culture of opportunity that motivates people to aim high, and giving them all the support and tools they need to reach their goals.

We’re always looking for ways to improve. That spirit has made us what we are today, and it will drive us to become what we want to be tomorrow.

We believe in better.

It’s our people that make Sky the UK and Ireland’s leading entertainment company. That’s why we work hard to be an inclusive employer, so everyone at Sky can be their best.
