Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a development producer.

In this role you will serve as a point person for new proposals and pitches for the audio team, and help develop and pilot future series, products and new podcast feeds, working in close collaboration with the WSJ Strategy team.

You will function as a liaison for the audio team internally with coverage areas across the newsroom.

You will assist in the launch of podcasts and, at times, support the production of current podcasts and other audio products.

Top candidates for this role will have excellent editorial judgment and strong production experience. Collaboration, decisiveness and clear communication skills are critical. We are seeking a producer with a track record of pitching, developing, field producing and elevating original audio series.

This position will be based in our New York office and reports to the Head of Newsroom Audio.

To apply, please submit your résumé, a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements and links to past work that represents the type of work described. Candidates who do not submit cover letters will not be considered.

You will:

  • Help to conceptualize new shows and series for existing feeds.
  • Produce internal pilots, both paper and audio cuts for listener feedback.
  • Manage production, post-production, and program distribution for new podcast feeds, ensuring all projects meet editorial and audio production standards and schedules.
  • Prepare promotional decks for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create social media strategy and messaging along with the marketing team.
  • Use data-driven content analysis to measure success and improve iterations.
  • Liaise with the newsroom to develop new series/special episodes for existing podcasts and help develop other audio products.
  • Be prepared to work late hours and weekends as news events may require.

You have:

  • 3+ years of editorial experience in an audio-first news environment.
  • Demonstrated soup-to-nuts experience and success developing and launching podcasts, from conception to rollout.
  • Strong news judgment and a deep understanding of, and interest in, The Wall Street Journal's core topic areas as well as strong editorial judgment and broad knowledge and interest in current events and news.
  • Excellent writing, editing and organizational skills.
  • Experience creating presentations in PowerPoint or Google Slides.

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
