Job Details

Position: Assistant editor,  LocalGov/LAPV

Job brief:

An exciting opening has become available for a journalist with a keen interest in digital media to join a leading business to business publishers as an assistant editor.

The post would suit someone either just out of journalism college and/or with some reporting experience. The successful candidate will be required to source and write stories about the issues affecting local authorities for public sector website LocalGov.co.uk as well as our quarterly magazine and website LAPV which covers the local authority vehicles market.

The assistant editor will also have the opportunity to write in-depth features on issues ranging from council finances to social care. The successful candidate will have a good sense of what makes a strong news story and a talent for clear communication. They will also have excellent written English and experience with digital journalism.

The Hemming Group, based near Blackfriars, London is a family-owned media company producing market-leading business magazines, trade exhibitions, websites and conferences. These include The MJ (Municipal Journal), the only print news weekly for senior council directors, The MJ Awards and high-level events for council chief executives.

The successful candidate will work with the Norwich-based editor of LocalGov.co.uk and LAPV, but will also have the opportunity to work with and learn from Hemming’s editorial team. While Hemming’s offices are in central London, the successful candidate will ideally work remotely from a shared desk and home in the Norwich area where LocalGov’s editor is based.

Responsibilities:

  • Source, write and upload between 4 and 8 stories per day for LocalGov and LAPV.
  • Edit features for both websites and the LAPV magazine.
  • Research and write features.
  • Social media.
  • Visiting trade shows.
  • Holiday cover.
