Job Details

It is a really exciting time to join the Reach family and due to our sustained growth and our committed future growth plans, we are now looking for an experienced Deputy TV Editor to join our Magazines team.

The Deputy TV Editor will break industry exclusives, including TV news stories and interviews, and support the TV Editor in leading the team working on ok.co.uk and our magazine and supplement titles including Saturday, We Love TV, Hot TV, S Magazine, Notebook, TV Life, Love Sunday, OK! and New every week.

We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

So, who are we?

We are Reach Plc, you might not have heard of us but we have probably met without you even realising it. We are home to the UK and Ireland’s most iconic digital platforms, magazines and newspapers. From the Mirror, Daily Express and OK!, to our regional titles such as the Liverpool Echo, BirminghamLive and the Manchester Evening News (plus lots more), our brands and the stories we cover are as varied as our people. We help all kinds of people share experiences through our stories because we believe this is what makes us human.

Oh, and we should probably also mention that with a monthly readership of 47 million people, Reach is the largest commercial publisher in the UK. At Reach, not only will you feel better understood, you will also feel you understand other people better too.

This role is home based and we are therefore open to candidates based across the UK.

What will the role involve?

  • Generating exclusives for print titles (Saturday, We Love TV, Hot TV, S magazine, Notebook, TV Life, Love Sunday, OK! and New) every week and daily on ok.co.uk, including exclusive cover shoots and interviews
  • Building and nurturing brilliant contacts within the world of TV and entertainment, including PRs, agents, production companies and industry sources, to ensure Reach magazines are the go-to destination for all things TV
  • Assisting the TV Editor to oversee all forward planning within the department, including day-to-day workflow, plus weekly, monthly and seasonal projects
  • Helping grow the audience on ok.co.uk by hitting PV targets and other KPIs with live reporting, preparing and scheduling spoilers and breaking news
  • Leading a team of passionate and enthusiastic TV journalists in the absence of the TV Editor
  • Writing in different styles and tones for our different audiences and platforms
  • This role includes weekend and evening working so a flexible approach is required

Who are we looking for?

  • NCTJ or equivalent journalism degree and knowledge of media law
  • Previous experience working at a senior level in print and digital reporting and editing in a fast paced newsroom or magazine
  • Proven track record in writing about TV, celebrity or entertainment
  • A passion for all things TV and entertainment
  • A strong story getter, demonstrating excellent journalism skills, with the ability to write in different styles and tones for different audiences and platforms
  • Experience using a CMS system and a knowledge of analysing and applying digital analytics platforms such as Google Analytics
  • Excellent communication, planning, problem solving and decision making skills

What can we offer you?

We are offering a competitive salary and benefits including;

  • Help saving for your retirement - join our pension scheme and we’ll match contributions up to 6%
  • 25 days’ holiday per year when you join. After three, five and ten years’ service with Reach, you’ll accrue one additional day of annual leave. We also have a Holiday Purchase Scheme
  • Giving back day - an additional day’s leave each year to support a cause close to your heart
  • Enhanced family leave - including maternity, paternity and adoption - and you’ll be eligible after just six months’ employment

  • We are also a member of the 30% Club, a global campaign aimed at increasing gender diversity at board and senior management levels
