ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is part of our digital team reporting to Good Housekeeping’s Lifestyle Digital Director. You will work with and manage a team that creates and supports the video and social media teams with food content and you will collaborate with the print Cookery and Food Team to optimise all content for multiple platform use. You will work with stakeholders across commercial, ecommerce and the Good Housekeeping Institute.

You will oversee and execute the brand’s digital food content strategy working with key stakeholders to plan, curate and build must-read food content whilst supporting the distribution of this content across all in house and 3rd party content platforms.

Key Responsibilities - 

  • Plan out Good Housekeeping's digital Food content strategy that delivers ever green and seasonal food content brimming with information, advice and recipes that attract new and returning visitors to this popular content category.
  • Create, produce and manage high-quality highly discoverable food content. Work with the digital cookery writer on creating a digital-first recipe strategy using data and trends to advise on recipe development ensuring key GH targets are met. Upload content to the site using the content management system (CMS). Repurpose and edit food content for inclusion on site and in the print issue of Good Housekeeping.
  • Work with the Good Housekeeping Institute. Coordinate with key stakeholders on annual digital food projects including our Christmas Taste Tests and GH’s annual Food Awards ensuring deadlines and targets are met.
  • Ensure the Newsletter Editor has informative, traffic-driving food features and recipes to include in weekly newsletters, using analytics to inform content creation and grow subscribers, and return users as a result.
  • Work with Hearst’s SEO director on a comprehensive SEO strategy that grows GH’s food pillar, planning around key dates from Christmas to Easter and writing, and updating news, features and developing and commissioning triple tested recipes alongside the food writer.
  • Work with the video team, and the digital cookery writer overseeing the production of recipes and how-to videos, proofing and approving finished video edits. Develop new, informative video franchises with the video team around food content. Help grow on-site video revenue.
  • Collaborate with GH’s social media manager and digital food team on engaging food & cookery ideas for use across all our relevant platforms, from Instagram to TikTok increasing engagement and traffic referrals daily. Be reactive to trends when developing a social first strategy.
  • Create food content franchises that can be sold by the advertising team. Support the advertising team on proactive and reactive food ad pitches with compelling, on-brand ideas when needed.
  • The role will involve a strong analytical approach to all key data & insight points to support constant improvements against Key Performance Indicators Use using analytics to monitor food web traffic data – including traffic, content engagement and video views.
  • You will also be expected to be on top of and communicating trends in the food landscape that can support brand growth through audience development, content creation and revenue generation.
  • You will be targeted on the Food Channel Reach, Frequency of Returning Visitors, and conversion of unknown audiences to known audiences.
  • Ensure all content is honest, legal and decent at all times and that all links are live at the time of publishing. Adhere to all GPDR regulations and always put the safety of the reader and Hearst security processes at the top of your content checklist.
  • You will be expected to know your KPIs and reports against them frequently.
  • Key stakeholder management of all relationships listed above will be critical to the success of the candidate.
  • Take on ad hoc project when requested. You will be expected to adhere to the company’s hybrid working policy and to representing the brand, where appropriate, attending relevant events, including reader events, which may be in the evening. You may be required to undertake such further duties as your skills, qualifications and experience allow and/or as may be assigned to you from time to time.

ABOUT YOU

  • This is an ideal job for a journalist who is an authority on all areas of food and cookery.
  • You will be comfortable writing food and cookery content  while also testing and editing content cookery hacks. Experience of working on a consumer website and or/magazine.
  • Knowledge of SEO
  • Experience of uploading content online and knowledge of different social media platforms.
  • Ability to generate and translate ideas and concepts into trusted digital features.
  • Proven experience and talent for writing for print and/or web.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and a team player.
  • A genuine interest for the topics that goodhousekeeping.co.uk covers.
  • Some experience using Photoshop
  • Some experience managing and developing junior writers and interns.
