Job Introduction

i is recruiting a Digital Publishing Editor to oversee and uphold the highest standards in our daily digital output. This role will be responsible for perfecting the execution and timing of digital content, interrogating ideas, sharpening sells and advising on formats across the newsroom to ensure editorial subscription targets are met. We are looking for an editor with exceptional headline ability, the energy and confidence to drive ideas and enforce deadlines, as well as the diplomacy to negotiate successfully with key stakeholders. This is a key role for i at an exciting time in its digital development. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Direct live digital publishing, identifying daily coverage priorities across newsroom, ensuring key projects hit digital deadlines and overseeing digital presentation, execution and distribution.
  • Own and execute daily digital publishing schedule to deliver editorial subscription targets, ensuring appropriate content timing and volume.
  • Work with editors, reporters, designers and site creators to interrogate ideas, oversee highest quality headlines, improve formats and images.
  • Drive and oversee digital planning for major events, collaborating with colleagues to shape delivery of digital storytelling.
  • Co-ordinate the launching of stories and content, using best practices for social, search and other platforms, in order to maximise the impact of our journalism.
  • Work with editorial teams to generate, refine and execute ideas using digital trends and data, with a focus on subscriber value.

 
Person Specification

  • Strong track record in digital news editing, digital publishing and audience development.
  • Ability to craft smart, impeccable headlines, sharp copy-editing skills and confident in use of images. 
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to react to breaking events and maintain planning schedule while liaising with desks and staying across the news agenda.
  • Adept at clear and diplomatic communication, including with senior editors, reporters and across editorial teams.
  • Experience of a national newsroom, including delivery of high-level, quality content.
