Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an experienced audio producer to conceptualize and launch a new weekly interview podcast series. You will work closely with the host to tap into the reporting of the WSJ newsroom, pitch original ideas, book a wide range of guests and drive show production.

We are a growing audio team that works with many areas of the WSJ newsroom to produce quality, factual, news-driven podcasts on topics that range from business, personal finance and economics to tech and science. We have a solid core listenership, which we're looking to expand and deepen.

Top candidates for this role will have excellent editorial judgment, strong production experience and team-management skills. A professional background in audio journalism, with a track record of creative storytelling, collaboration, decisiveness and clear communication are also critical for this position.

The position is based in our New York City office and reports to the Supervising Producer, Features.

To apply, please submit your résumé, a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements and five links to past work that represents the type of work described. Candidates who do not submit cover letters will not be considered.

You Will:

  • Partner with the host to conceptualize and launch a new weekly interview podcast series.
  • Book newsmakers and industry leaders, thoroughly research and prep interviews.
  • Record remote interviews and studio-based conversations.
  • Cut and produce full publish-ready episodes of the show.
  • Fact-check and edit scripts for multiple stories ranging from politics, business, tech news and more.
  • Research topics of interest to The Wall Street Journal's audience, with a focus on business, markets, economics, technology and science.
  • Source timely news and archival audio for episodes.
  • Propose new and original ideas for programming.
  • Ensure that all content on the show meets all WSJ journalistic and legal standards.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including supporting other WSJ podcasts in New York and London.

You Have:

  • At least three years of experience in audio storytelling at a successful podcast or radio program.
  • A track record of producing quality audio content efficiently under tight deadline constraints.
  • The ability to quickly switch gears between several podcast formats, including daily news, weekly and bi-weekly interview and feature programs, and limited-run enterprise series.
  • A passion for telling business, markets, tech and science stories in creative ways.
  • Professional-level understanding of Adobe Audition, Pro Tools or other DAWs.
  • The ability to communicate clearly with exceptional written and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated production skills in both the studio and the field.
  • Experience balancing multiple episodes in production at the same time.

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
