Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a video editor to work with a team of short-form video producers to create timely video features, recurring franchises and in-depth explainers for our WSJ YouTube channel.

Top candidates for this position will have a professional background in video journalism and demonstrate exceptional story editing skills. We are looking for someone who can juggle many tasks and is excited about editing videos quickly to capitalize on the news cycle.

Please note, this is not an entry-level position, and it is not a position editing documentaries.

The position is based in our New York City office and reports to the Executive Producer of the WSJ YouTube team.

To apply, please submit a résumé and a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key requirements. Please also include links to five videos that represent the type of work described. Candidates need to show successful executions of timely projects that have been done in just a few hours, as well as videos produced with longer lead times. Candidates who do not submit cover letters will not be considered.

You will:

  • Edit three to eight minute stories, across a variety of coverage areas, often on tight deadlines.
  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of edit.
  • Work with producers to best tell their story once in post-production.
  • Take a script and bring the story to life in the edit, while adding input on how to structure the story.
  • Source accurate and relevant visuals for stories from newswires and other available sources.
  • Manage every aspect of video post-production from start to finish.
  • Be able to work late hours and weekends both as part of a regular weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

You have:

  • At least three years of experience editing videos in a daily news environment at a national or global news organization.
  • Experience editing quality video stories efficiently and often under tight deadline constraints.
  • An ability to convey news and tell stories in creative ways using high-quality video and graphics.
  • A deep understanding and interest in The Journal's core coverage areas.
  • Strong editorial judgment and broad knowledge of current events.
  • Professional-level understanding of Adobe Suite, with a high level of expertise in Premiere and basic knowledge of After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
