Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a skilled, highly creative editor to lead our newsroom on weekends.

You will be our point person for news on Saturdays and Sundays, working closely with coverage leaders to ensure that we are on top of the news no matter when it happens. You will also oversee our publishing and platform teams on the weekend and help prepare our coverage and presentation plans.

The position requires excellent news judgment, a strong sense of stories and copy, understanding of data and a deep appreciation of the values and mission of The Wall Street Journal.

You will be a key voice as we set news and enterprise priorities for the weekend, gate-keeping our content and leading our efforts to deliver our journalism to our readers, viewers and listeners, across platforms and mediums. You will also be expected to work closely with reporting bureaus as well as direct and oversee the work of colleagues.

This role on our team requires schedule flexibility, primarily with weekend hours. You will report to the Chief Digital Editor and be based in our New York office.

You will:

  • Independently and quickly make decisions about breaking news.
  • Oversee our publishing and platforms on weekends, ensuring that news gets out quickly and that we are focusing on the right stories.
  • Coordinate with coverage chiefs to manage strategy on the top news of the day.
  • Understand WSJ's audiences and their needs to best connect our content.
  • Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics in your own work and that of others.
  • Meet deadlines, solve problems and be flexible in changing/handing off tasks.

You have:

  • Extensive experience in digital journalism and publishing.
  • Excellent news judgment and a deep understanding of the values, priorities and mission of The Wall Street Journal.
  • Skill with audience data and knowledge of how to use it to measure our daily efforts and elevate future endeavors.
  • Experience and skill handling copy, headlines, captions and other editing tasks.
  • An understanding of modern and innovative storytelling techniques for digital platforms, particularly mobile.
  • The ability to work across the newsroom with a wide range of colleagues as a collaborative leader.
  • A desire to learn new skills.

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining how your skills, experience and interests align with the requirements of the role.

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
