We are looking for a Communications Executive and Public Relations (PR) Lead to lead the design and implementation of communications campaigns across all IChemE channels, and to take responsibility for IChemE’s PR and media strategy.

The post holder will be responsible for maximising the use of the Institution’s PR monitoring platform, developing measurement criteria and utilising tools available to provide insights to increase engagement with our target audiences and for ensuring IChemE’s tone of voice is maintained in all areas including on the Institution’s website.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the post holder will contribute to the implementation of IChemE’s communications strategy in support of the Institution being a leading professional qualifying body and learned society, and will support the day-to-day operations of the Communications function.

You will have a degree in public relations/communications or a related discipline and hold professional membership of CIPR or CIM, or a recognised qualification in PR/communications. You will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a communications role as well as a sound understanding of press office activity and press release distribution mechanisms.

Your copy-writing skills and proof-reading ability will be of a demonstrable, high-quality standard and you will be able to explain technical/specialist matters in a way that a non-specialist can readily understand, as well as having an appreciation of the tone of voice required to target policy makers and influencers.

You will have strong digital marketing skills and experience in producing creative digital content, as well as experience of using mainstream social media networks.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a passionate team focused on generating impactful communication campaigns, demonstrating chemical engineers’ contribution to society and delivering influence.

Core responsibilities of the role include:

  • Creating communications campaigns to support IChemE’s vision and values
  • Taking responsibility for IChemE’s PR and media strategy 
  • Monitoring and measuring the impact of communications campaign

Due to IChemE’s international nature, this position requires a willingness to work flexibly and to engage in business discussions which sometimes may fall outside of normal working hours.

This position is based in the UK and will be a hybrid role with the expectation of it being one to two days working from the Rugby office and the remainder working from home.

This is a permanent, full-time role based on 37.5 hours per week working Monday through to Friday.

Starting salary will be in the region of £31,000 per annum (depending on experience) plus benefits which includes an excellent pension scheme.
