Are you a London aficionado, who knows your Bromley from your Barnet? Are you at home in a busy newsroom with a strong knowledge of current affairs in the capital?

Metro.co.uk is looking for a talented Freelance London News Reporter to join our News team.

As a London News Reporter, you will be responsible for pitching, writing, producing, and curating London-centric content.

The ideal candidate is someone who has a real passion for the UK’s capital city, and thrives under the speed and unpredictability of the daily news cycle. They enjoy covering everything from local London crime to train and Tube strikes. A keen eye for Google and social trends is essential.

Working closely with the news team your responsibilities will include:

• Produce written London content for the website and digital platforms
• Deliver vibrant copy while working to very tight deadlines
• Ability to generate London news stories, with an eye for surfacing compelling content and spotting rising search trends
• Manage workflow and research to deliver stories to tight deadlines
• Coordinate across multiples teams to ensure stories will be produced in a timely fashion for deadlines
• Operate content management system for publication of stories
• Monitor analytics and adjust strategy as needed to optimise KPIs
• Liaise with different sections across the site when planning London content
• Plan and produce coverage for significant London events

We are looking for professionals with the following:

• NCTJ or equivalent qualification
• Significant newsroom experience
• Strong understanding of SEO
• Ability to work under tight deadline pressure
• Ability to generate own news stories
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Applicable knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources
• Must have a passion for research and finding the most interesting information
• Strong communication skills to work collaboratively with team members
