Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a reporter to join its markets team in New York with a focus on currencies and foreign exchange.

You'll dive into a momentous global story: The strong dollar has been reshaping economies and trade and budgets and markets around the world. The Fed's push to tamp down inflation looms large in FX markets; the prospect of a recession could scramble everything.

Reporters on The Journal's markets team have areas of focus (yours would be the dollar and FX) but also think across asset classes and write widely on markets as the news demands.

You will:

  • Be The Wall Street Journal's authority on the U.S. dollar in foreign-exchange markets
  • Work closely with reporters overseas to chronicle global FX trends and developments
  • Develop expertise on market function and sourcing among FX traders and brokers
  • Write in-the-moment news and longer-term features on the dollar and FX
  • Write widely on financial markets as needed, especially on related areas such as rates markets

You have:

  • At least three years experience at a news organization, some of which should have been spent on financial markets or macroeconomics
  • An ability to work accurately under deadline pressure
  • Facility with market data tools or financial data

This position is based in our New York City office.

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining how you would approach this beat. Please also submit clips of published work.

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
