Job Details

Reuters is seeking a reporter with a proven track record of breaking news, writing quick, bright copy, and developing enterprise stories to join our sports team in the United Kingdom.

An ability to develop sources and a flair for writing are a given, but beyond that we are looking for a versatile reporter who will be as comfortable on the side-lines of the FIFA congress as in the Old Trafford press box, and who will relish covering all aspects of sport, from press conferences and matches to sponsorship, doping and gender identity politics.

The successful candidate, who will be based in the north-west of England, will have strong news judgement and will help drive our coverage of sport and its growing impact on all sectors of society.

The focus will be two-fold: covering spot breaking news in a real-time, competitive fashion, and also developing stories beyond the breaking news in conjunction with visuals teams and other reporters globally.

As our Sports News Correspondent, you will:

  • Cover spot news and tackle the big themes of the day to produce exclusive stories and agenda-setting pieces
  • Build sources across the sports world, including at clubs, federations and associations to break news and keep us ahead of the competition
  • Be able to step back and write the bigger picture for a broad, global audience, working with photos, video and graphics teams.

You will have:

  • A strong work ethic and team spirit to ensure we deliver fast and insightful coverage, working closely with colleagues across the newsroom
  • Excellent written English. Another language is an advantage
  • An insatiable curiosity and track record of generating scoops
