Salary: £36-40,000 PA depending on experience

Location: Hybrid: London Waterloo office 2-days a week

Based opposite St Thomas’ Hospital in Waterloo, we provide daily online news coverage of the sector; we run the largest Network of health IT leaders; are organisers of Digital Health Rewired, the leading trade show; and publish the most complete market intelligence databases in the sector.   

Job description

The job is to be the News Editor of Digital Health, providing daily original online news coverage of the fast-moving health IT and digital health sectors in the UK.

The job is currently a hybrid of office based, two days a week, and working from home. You will additionally be expected to travel to attend events and meetings.

The news editor oversees news planning and output, includes writing news, on Digitalhealth.net as well as managing the editorial. The target audience is a very diverse range of clinicians, digital and data professionals, senior health executives, suppliers, policymakers and academics.

The news editor is a member of the management team, with one direct staff report and and one freelancer.

You will at all times be an ambassador for Digital Health News, when attending conferences, press events and briefings. 

Candidate

We are seeking an experienced journalist with proven experience of online reporting for a B2B title. Ideally, you should be a deputy editor, news editor or senior reporter now ready to take on more responsibility and take the next step in your career.

You should be a motivated and highly organised self-starter, eager to make your mark in a fascinating new sector that is at the intersection of health, technology, business, society and politics.

Experience of health, technology or business reporting would be desirable but not essential.  

Job responsibilities

News Editor

  • Managing the weekly news list
  • Distributing work to the editorial team
  • Writing news stories
  • Writing features
  • Conducting interviews
  • Managing newsletters
  • Chairing webinars / round tables
  • Managing the editorial team and their wellbeing
  • Attending bi-weekly management calls
  • Producing weekly management report

Reporting:

  • The role of  news editor also requires writing up news stories and features
  • You are expected to make imaginative and effective use of online publishing devices and tools to provide engaging articles
  • You are expected to make effective use of social media channels – primarily Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn – to drive engagement with readers

Legal

  • You should ensure you are familiar with the key principles of UK media law, particularly with regard to the laws of libel and defamation in a B2B context. 
  • You are expected to adhere to the highest standards of journalistic ethics and integrity.

Duties and responsibilities also include:

  • Act as an ambassador for Digital Health at press conferences and industry events, both during and outside normal working hours.
  • Travel when necessary to conduct interviews and attend conferences
  • Be punctual, organised and professional.
  • Adhere to the highest standards of journalistic ethics and integrity
  • Providing assistance to other departments (Networks, Intelligence, Events) Managing editorial on the Networks website
