Contract: Full-time, Permanent, 37.5 hours per week

Global Water Intelligence, the leading publisher and events organiser serving the international water industry, is looking to recruit a seasoned journalist with editorial experience. The successful candidate will join American Water Intelligence, a subsidiary of GWI, and work closely across our global team of editorial staff.

The North America Editor will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to drive coverage of the water market in the US and Canada, delivering timely and exclusive news analysis, and generating agenda-setting insight on water and wastewater infrastructure trends.

The role will be to strengthen the engagement of our North American audience through sharp and timely analysis of key market developments. Output will include short news articles and longer feature pieces for weekly and monthly publications, alongside video interviews  and moderating online and in-person events. They will have the opportunity to help steer the agendas of our flagship business conferences, the American Water Summit and the Global Water Summit, as well as contributing to relevant research or consulting projects.

The North America Editor will join the editorial team during a shift from a subscription-based print offering to a digital membership model. A successful candidate should be able to demonstrate understanding of the changing business models of B2B publishing and events businesses.

While GWI is headquartered in Oxford, UK, the team is global, with editorial staff in mainland Europe, China, Australia, and the US. We are open to applications from across the USA  and Canada.

Some travel to industry conferences will be required.

The ideal candidate would have:

  • 5+ years experience of business journalism, including interviewing public and private sector leaders.
  • Ability to distil complex topics quickly, and to communicate the key points concisely. Experience of this within the realms of technology, finance or industry  is desired.
  • A natural talent for developing strong networks of contacts to stay abreast of the news.
  • Experience of delivering content for multiple forms of media (print, web, video, events).
  • Prior examples of moderating or speaking at industry conferences.
  • The ability to build and lead communities around key industry topics, by developing a strong editorial voice and by engaging online and in person with readers.
  • A knack for identifying stories from market and financial data and a dexterity in using graphics to tell those stories visually.

The successful candidate will be offered a health insurance plan, an employer-contribution pension plan, and receive a holiday allowance of 23 days per year.

Applicant instructions:

Please submit a resume and a covering letter  explaining in fewer than 200 words why you are applying for the job and what you think you can contribute to us that would make a real difference.

The closing date for applications is 16 October 2022.

We will discard applications which do not come with covering letters. We will then draw up a shortlist of the strongest candidates for the position, to whom we will send a skills test. On the basis of this test, we will narrow the field down to applicants for interview.

We encourage you to apply early, as we may close the vacancy if we receive sufficient applications.

Salary: $80,000-100,000  depending on experience .
