About the Team: 

The SCMP sports desk covers a wide range of sports across the region, highlighting the achievements of athletes at all levels. Like those we report on, the team is a combination of all-rounders and specialists, with experience built up from working across the world. 

Purpose of the position: 

We are in need of a talented all-rounder who knows the difference between a four and fore, who can turn their hands to a multitude of tasks and can do it quickly, and wants to be a part of covering a region that is growing in global importance by the day.

Can you spot a viral news story at 100 yards and understand the importance of SEO? Do you know your Twitter from your TikTok and how to use social media channels to boost stories online?

If so, drop us a line and let's have a chat. There are some big events coming up in the next two years, with Hong Kong’s teams and athletes involved in the Asia Cup, Asian Games, Asian Tour and Paris Olympics, and we're building a team of the best to report on the best.

In this role, you will: 

• Cover a variety of beats at home and abroad
• Be able to turn your hand to everything from live blogs, to breaking news, to feature pieces and human interest stories. 
• One weekend may involve football in the Hong Kong Premier League, and the next reporting on Olympics silver medallist Siobhan Haughey. No two days are likely to be the same. 

Skills and Experience that will lead to success: 

• Ability to live blog and file stories in a timely fashion.
• Deliver clean copy for breaking news.
• Dig up exclusives and go beyond the basics in match reports or interviews.
• Understand the importance of social media in finding stories and expanding our reach. 
• Be willing to step outside your comfort zone.

Work location will be at Causeway Bay office.
