Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a seasoned development producer to manage the pipeline of longform unscripted and scripted film and television projects for our video team.

Top candidates for this position will have a professional background in long-form video journalism (i.e. documentaries and docu-series), demonstrate exceptional storytelling ability, and be able to juggle stories across a variety of subjects.

In this role, you will work across the newsroom to source new stories and develop existing stories into television and feature-length film projects. You'll work closely with other members of the newsroom, as well as external production partners.

The position will be based in our New York City offices and reports to the co-Executive Producer of WSJ Studios.

To apply, please submit a cover letter outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements. Please provide links to several widely-distributed examples of your work, and what role you played in those projects.

You Will:

  • Work with reporters and editors to identify opportunities to create new longform video projects based on new and existing WSJ coverage and IP.
  • Coordinate access and logistics across all parts of the production process as a representative of the newsroom.
  • Develop original ideas around core WSJ coverage areas.
  • Serve as the editorial point person between outside production companies and WSJ journalists.
  • Lead the development of pitch decks and other external-facing material for WSJ Studios.
  • Manage multiple projects in various stages of production.
  • Create internal workflows and procedures for projects in development and production.
  • Ensure that all projects adhere to WSJ's legal and editorial standards and ethics guidelines.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

You Have:

  • At least five years of experience developing and helping to produce unscripted film and television projects.
  • Broad knowledge of film and television production workflows and best practices.
  • Deep understanding and interest in the journalism produced out of The Wall Street Journal.
  • Strong editorial judgment and broad knowledge of current events.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional organizational and time management skills.

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
