Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a part-time operations coordinator to support its growing video and audio team.

As operations coordinator you will work with producers and managers in sourcing and onboarding of freelancers, tracking budgets and coding invoices. Top candidates for this position will have a professional background working in a fast-paced newsroom and be passionate about helping our team produce compelling video and audio journalism. A track record of being detail oriented with a positive attitude under tight news and administrative deadline pressure are essential for this role.

You will be expected to be self-sufficient, decisive and to clearly communicate with team members. You will also regularly collaborate with video and audio producers of all ranks to execute and consistently meet the highest production standards of The Wall Street Journal.

The position is based in our New York City office and reports to the Director of Operations.

To apply, please submit your résumé, a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements. Candidates who do not submit cover letters will not be considered.

You will:
  • Source, hire, and onboard video and audio freelancers in the US and internationally.
  • Code invoices, create service entry sheets, and create goods receipts in SAP.
  • Manage and track the freelance calendar in an organized manner.
  • Track and reconcile project budgets across the video and audio department.
  • Serve as a liaison between WSJ journalists and producers, with freelancers during video shoots when the Director of Operations is unavailable.
  • Create Google spreadsheets with coding and help develop new, streamlined workflows to improve productivity and organization.
  • Ensure all content meets the highest production value and all journalistic and legal standards are followed.
  • Support additional production needs as needed.

You have:
  • At least three years of production experience in a daily news environment.
  • Strong production experience, team-management skills and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional time-management skills.
  • Experience producing results under tight deadline constraints.
  • Experience in Google spreadsheet coding

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
