Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is looking for an aspiring journalist with the accuracy, writing skill and persistence to help us cover Asia with a focus on China, the world's second largest economy and a major global power.
You will join The Wall Street Journal's team and work with top-flight reporters around the globe to produce the world's best coverage of this fascinating and varied country. You will have an important role supporting our coverage of everything from large technology companies to the pace of economic growth and the battle with Covid.
You will
- Work documents, the phones and social media to find the facts, data and people needed to make our stories come alive and stand up to tough scrutiny.
- Write your own stories under your own byline, everything from news of the day to features to more ambitious efforts.
- Find leadership and mentoring from the strong groups of colleagues on our China and Asia teams
You have
- Solid reporting skills characterized by high accuracy and an eye for telling quotes, interesting people and illuminating anecdotes
- Good writing and the ability to deliver news stories that only need light editing
- Fluent Mandarin
More broadly you will need to show that you have the determination to dig for the deeper story, a thick skin and open mind, as well as a temperament for teamwork.
The job is based in Singapore or Hong Kong and reports to the China bureau chief.
