Job Details

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal seeks a dynamic reporter to cover U.S. financial markets, with a focus on oil and energy markets.

This is a high-profile, fast-paced beat at the core of our newsroom. You'll cover breaking news and be charged with understanding and explaining the complexities of the oil and energy markets to a general audience as well as sophisticated financial readers.

While your home base will be in oil and energy, our markets reporters develop expertise across the financial landscape, and you should have the intellectual curiosity to take on stocks, bonds, commodities, currencies or whatever else is in the news.

You should be eager to go big, telling stories that start conversations and set agendas for the decision-makers who read the Journal. But the job also requires nuance and attention to detail so we can cut through jargon, make sure we get everything right and boil down even the most complex topics.

The position will be based in New York and report to co-editors Aaron Kuriloff and Lauren Pollock.

You will:

  • Cover breaking news as well as short-term and long-term storylines in financial markets, bringing readers both news and analysis with urgency.
  • Use analytical skills and expertise to write authoritative and creative feature stories about the financial markets.

You have:

  • A proven track record of covering markets, energy or a track record of scoops and enterprise work on other beats.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and write quickly.
  • Strong explanatory writing skills.

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining how you would approach the role. Please also share clips or other samples of the work you're most proud of.

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
