Job Introduction

i is recruiting for a creative and diligent Audience Executive.

The ideal candidate will play a fundamental part in building a deeper relationship with i's audience, across a variety of platforms and with a particular focus on the homepage and app.

This role is perfect for an entry-or junior-level candidate, looking to work across a wide range of platforms and products, while honing their skills, to help both bring in more readers for i's journalism, and develop deeper engagement with them.

As part of this role, you’ll become comfortable working with the newsdesk on setting the day’s agenda, updating the homepage, and sending notifications for stories.

They will work closely with other editorial staff, supporting a growing newsroom and collaborating in a team that operates across social, SEO, video, app, and newsletters.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work with the homepage editor to choose what stories appear on the inews.co.uk homepage and section homepages, based on analytics, discussions with senior editors and your own news judgement
  • Social media production and promotion
  • Reporting on audience data to influence commissioning
  • Building and sending newsletters
  • Choose and edit images for articles to ensure the homepage and section pages feel up-to-date, engaging, and informative
  • Participate in editorial meetings to discuss upcoming stories, and work with the rest of the audience team to build promotion plans for our most important stories
  • Write and send app and desktop push notifications
  • Commitment to i's editorial standards of impartial and incisive coverage. Appreciation for i’s audience and tone and the type of stories that appeal to our readers

Required Skills and Experience

  • 1-2 years in a digital newsroom
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an understanding for voice and tone on social media and online
  • Experience working in a live news environment
  • Proficient with Photoshop or equivalent image editing tools
  • Comfortable using analytics software such as Google Analytics or equivalent analytics tools
  • Experience in digital production using WordPress or equivalent CMS
  • Good news judgement
  • Excellent visual design skills 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience curating news stories for an online news brand
  • Strong experience working with photo agencies and wires
  • NCTJ or (similar) standard qualification
