Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a video journalist to produce quick turnaround videos, as well as timely analysis pegged to the news, as part of its international team in London.

Top candidates for this position will have a professional background in video journalism and demonstrate exceptional shooting and editing skills.

In this role you will be expected to juggle many tasks under deadline pressure, with a primary focus on producing daily videos on news stories driving that day's agenda, and covering core WSJ topics, such as business, finance and geopolitics. An ability to react quickly and bring challenging topics to life visually are essential for this position, as is the ability to add depth and context for our audience.

The ideal candidate for this position is excited about news and eager to develop new ways to cover the events shaping our world in digital video format.

Please note, this is not an entry-level position, and it is not a position producing documentaries. This role is focused on producing daily news coverage. Candidates need to show successful executions of projects under tight deadlines that stand out in the 24/7 news cycle. A proven track record of breaking down complex topics for a general audience is a plus.

This position will report to the Executive Producer, International and will be based in our London office.

To apply, please submit a resume and a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements, along with links to five videos that represent the type of work described. Only candidates who submit cover letters will be considered for this role.

You Will:

  • Research, write and produce timely news coverage and topical analysis on a daily basis
  • Pitch new and original story ideas every day to ensure timely news coverage
  • Collaborate with editorial leaders across coverage areas to ensure that The Journal's unbiased understanding of news and expert analysis is reflected in every video published
  • Coach beat reporters and news editors, in person and remotely, on best practices for appearing on camera or in voiceover
  • Fact-check scripts and ensure all journalistic and legal standards are followed
  • Work with freelance videographers around the world, developing shot lists, advising on shooting, and managing all aspects of the pre- and post-production process
  • Work late hours and weekends as part of a regular rotation and as breaking news events may warrant
  • Complete additional duties as assigned

You Have:

  • At least three years' experience working in a daily news environment
  • Experience monitoring video feeds and breaking news events
  • Professional experience writing scripts for news stories under tight time constraints
  • Demonstrated experience producing compelling business, tech, politics and general news videos on deadline
  • Knowledge of current events, U.S. and international politics, economics, and a nose for news
  • Skill with multiple camera setups, including but not limited to the Sony FS5, FS7, C100 and C300
  • A basic understanding of lighting best practices, both in studio and into the field
  • Professional competency editing with Adobe Premiere
  • Clear communication skills with exceptional written and collaboration skills
  • Language skills and any regional knowledge in EMEA and APAC are a plus

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
