Job Details
Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is looking for an enterprising, experienced reporter for one of our highest-profile beats, covering Apple.
One of the biggest and most influential businesses in history, Apple has a record of redefining the technology industry. It is now in the middle of its own transformation, as it looks for new ways to build upon, and go beyond, its aging iPhone business. More than a decade into his tenure as CEO, Tim Cook is betting on a different future built around content and services industries with different dynamics and competitors.
The company is also exploring new opportunities from augmented reality to automobiles, even as it battles regulatory scrutiny over the competitive power it a ready has amassed. It is at the center of tech industry discussions about privacy and data security, and sits at the nexus of the increasingly fraught U.S.-China business relationship.
All of which makes it a fascinating time to cover the world's most valuable company for the most influential business publication.
You will:
- Break news and write agenda-setting features on a high-profile beat.
- Help drive broader coverage of the tech industry at a critical time for the industry.
- Work effectively with colleagues across Wall Street Journal teams and platforms to help ensure every aspect of our Apple coverage is top-notch.
You have:
- Sourcing skills to penetrate the surface of this subject, and a passion for deep and dogged reporting and vivid writing.
- Energy, inquisitiveness and enough versatility to write about geopolitical issues and law-enforcement controversies as well as AR gadgets and streaming entertainment.
- Ideally, knowledge of the tech industry.
You will be part of the tech team based in San Francisco and will collaborate with colleagues there and around the globe.
The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.
If you're interested, reach out to global tech editor Jason Dean and Bradley Olson, the editor for Apple coverage. In your application, please submit a resume, a cover letter and a selection of clips that demonstrate your ability to handle a beat of this importance.
