Researcher/Writer (Cars) - 12 Month FTC
Division: Content
Vacancy Type: Fixed Term
London - Hybrid working (1-2 days in the office per week)

Starting Salary: £22,000-£27,000 (depending on level of experience)

We're looking for a Researcher to join our Product Testing team on a 12 month fixed term contract (with the potential to become permanent).

Ideally you'll have an interest in cars and automotive related topics, although this isn't essential. But we do need someone who can work with large data sets and is also comfortable developing and maintaining relationships with external and internal stakeholders.

Our independent testing and informative advice lies at the heart of what Which? does. In this role you will research and create content for both online and print to help consumers make one of the largest and most important purchases in their lives.

While you'll be part of our greater Product Testing team, which evaluates everything from microwaves and lawnmowers to TVs and pushchairs, you'll be focused on researching and testing cars.

Our 800,000+ subscribers depend on us. And so we need you to give them the unbiased information they expect so that they can choose the right products the first time.

What you'll be doing:

This role requires someone who can organise high quality product research, can get to grips with the results and can then turn them into engaging print and online content.

On top of this, you'll work closely with our endorsements and affiliates teams to maximise any opportunities revealed by our rigorous, independent testing. You'll also help develop and maintain relationships with car manufacturers and other key external stakeholders.

You'll have an eye for a great story. Working with technical data you'll draw out what the information is saying and what consumers would be interested in. You will then use your exceptional writing skills to deliver content for our flagship magazine, Which?, and our website which.co.uk, including features, product reviews and news stories.

The successful candidate will also take on some project management duties. You'll help design and commission robust research with external laboratories, and will also perform your own road testing assessments.

This means that you'll need to be switched on and will really understand what consumers want to know - for example, what are the real pros and cons of electric cars? Is it worth investing in a hybrid in 2022? You'll deliver the research that tells people what they need to know and truly affects what they buy.

What we are looking for

  • You'll have an understanding of different research techniques. And while you may not have conducted product tests in the past, your experience will help you to plan/commission research that will tell consumers what they need to know.
  • You'll be comfortable interpreting and working with complex large data sets in Excel.
  • You'll need excellent writing skills and a talent for turning complex information into clear, accessible language that's enjoyable to read.
  • You have excellent communication skills and can act as an ambassador for Which? In external meetings and events.
  • You'll have good project management and excellent delivery skills that enable you to run multiple projects at the same time and to produce articles to tight deadlines.
  • You are required to have a full driving licence.

About the rewards?

You get a competitive salary, 28 days' holiday, contributory pension, life assurance, private medical cover, health insurance, full Which? membership for free, 50% off making a will with Which? Wills.

About the Which? way of life?

We've signed up to the Time to Change employer pledge that protects staff against mental health discrimination. We're also a Stonewall accredited employer.

If this sounds like your ideal next role, then we want to hear from you! Let us know what makes you stand out from the crowd by sending us a covering letter and your CV.
