Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a video journalist to strategically deploy global video coverage across its homepage, articles and apps, while also regularly pitching and producing pieces about key WSJ news coverage areas.

You will be part of an award-winning team that's constantly exploring ways to bring challenging stories to life and stand out in a fast-paced news cycle. In this role, the top candidate will be able to compartmentalize the job into two main responsibilities. First, you will execute solid news judgment in order to strategically embed videos across the Journal's platforms. Second, you will produce and collaborate with fellow video journalists on news and feature videos.

Both platforms and editorial duties are aimed to enrich and innovate the global video team's daily news coverage and audience engagement.

Please note that this isn't an entry-level position nor will you be producing documentaries. You will need to demonstrate the ability to effectively organize and multitask in order to carry out both responsibilities in a timely fashion.

You will:

  • Have a strong grasp of daily news and developing stories as well as knowledge of audience data in order to make sound programming/embed decisions
  • Be technically astute in order to create workflow system to execute embeds in an efficient and organized manner Coordinate and communicate with newsroom editors, reporters and the internal publishing team
  • Collaborate with fellow video journalists on joint projects and delivering assigned responsibilities, such as edit or research, on deadline
  • Pitch ideas that hit core WSJ topics with a concept for visual elements/scenes that will make the final video engaging to our viewers
  • Have the ability to organize time and structure day to tackle both programming/embed and editorial responsibilities on deadline
  • Have expertise in the entire Adobe Suite with a main focus on Adobe Premiere and After Effects
  • Research, script and edit on deadline with a focus on clear framing and story structure
  • Ensure that all journalistic and legal standards are followed
  • Be able to work late hours and weekends as news developments may require


You Have:

 

  • At least three years of experience working in a daily news environment
  • Professional experience writing scripts for news stories on deadline
  • Experience editing and producing compelling business, tech, politics and general news videos under tight deadline constraints
  • Professional competency editing and/or designing graphics using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of international current events, APAC and EMEA news, U.S. politics, economics, and a general nose for news Expertise using multiple camera setups, including the Sony FS5 and FS7, Canon C100 and C300
  • Adept with studio and field lighting setups
  • Additional language proficiency/fluency would be a plus
