What will the apprentice be doing?

The Editorial Assistant role at Muddy Stilettos is wide-ranging, with the successful candidate undertaking feature writing, content management, research, idea generation, image sourcing, office admin, and editor support.

The editorial assistant is at the heart of the central editorial team, attending weekly features meetings as well as the HQ team WIP. As a fast-paced, dynamic digital business, we offer our editorial assistants the kind practical experience that can take years to access in other publishing companies. Our editorial assistants are at the heart of the business, with daily access to the Editor-in-Chief and ideas that are encouraged and actioned and feel truly part of the team.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will gain a National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ) and a Senior Journalist Level 7 (MA equivalent) from the Press Association. Training will be one day per week release, a mix of training from PA’s London office, on-the-job projects at Muddy and virtual learning set by PA.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The intention is that you will stay within the company as a full-time employee after your apprenticeship ends.

Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent English (Grade Grade C/ 4 or above) essential
  • GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade Grade C/ 4 or above) essential
  • An English, arts or media degree (2.2 and above) is desirable

Things to Consider

This is primarily an editorial role and an ability to write smart, lively copy is vital. An appreciation and understanding of popular culture and the arts, as well as Muddy Stilettos’ role in the lives of our readers is also important. A strong interest in the technical side of how the website works, and an understanding of social media is desirable. This role is based largely remotely, however you will be required to work in Oxford or London from time to time.
