The Wall Street Journal's Opinion section is looking for a film critic to join the Arts in Review team. Arts in Review publishes, on average, two to three film reviews each week, casting a wide net in doing so, from mainstream movies such as Hollywood blockbusters to more niche-oriented art house and foreign-language films. There is expanded coverage at the end of the year and during Oscar season. The position requires a broad knowledge of the history and language of film; an ability to closely monitor the film landscape, not only for upcoming releases but industry developments; good, clear writing and a lively prose style; a distinct critical point of view; the ability to work successfully under deadline pressure and respond well to edits.

Additional applicant requirements:

  • At least 10+ years of experience
  • Candidates should be familiar with the ideas, philosophy and principles for which The Wall Street Journal's editorial page stands.
  • Flexible to do weekend/evening work as required.
  • High level of proficiency in writing.
  • The ability to work under deadline pressure.

Although you may start remotely, this position will be based in our New York office.
