Senior Health Reporter

The team: We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Health Reporter to join The Sun's health team. We want the most talented and committed journalists, and welcome applications from experts, as well as experienced news reporters keen to specialise.

Key accountabilities: 

  • A hunger to beat our rivals by breaking news and writing exclusive news stories and features online and in print

  • Bags of ideas and the ability to generate exclusives from your own sources and contacts

  • Write brilliant headlines in the famous Sun style and produce sparkling and clean copy to tight deadlines

  • Working with audience, video and picture desk to produce engaging packages

  • Working as part of a team, deputising to run the online team when required, and adapting to find new ways to tell stories 

 

Key skills and experiences:

  • Online or print reporting experience in a newsroom

  • Experience using Wordpress or similar CMS system to build digital content

  • A passion for The Sun and an understanding of the brand in print and online

  • Being a self-starter is key - and you will need to thrive under pressure in a busy newsroom

  • Enthusiasm, imagination and a notebook full of ideas are all essential

  • Unflappable under pressure and delivers work to a consistently high standard

  • Positive attitude and good team player

  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

  • Have a thorough knowledge of the IPSO code of conduct, media law and ethical considerations

  • Experience as a reporter on national newspaper or magazine is preferred

  • Willingness to work flexible hours over a seven-day rota pattern
