Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Training & Programming Coordinator who will be responsible for supporting newsroom culture, training and outreach initiatives.

The person in this role will play a key team role in organizing programs and sessions, work collaboratively across the newsroom on diversity and inclusion initiatives and work creatively and ambitiously to equip journalists and future journalists with the skills and understanding needed to excel.

You will:

  • Lead coordination of newsroom training, visits and mentoring activities for existing and future Journal outreach programs.Work includes tracking participants who matriculate through programs and implementing project management tools.
  • Support Journal newsroom internal inclusion programs, such as The WSJ Trust Fellowship and partnerships with Dow Jones inclusion resource groups.
  • Work with the Training & Outreach Project Manager to schedule and implement newsroom training sessions, including new-hire and intern orientations.
  • Attend and assist in the Journal's participation at journalism conferences.
  • Help to arrange in-person and remote visits by outside groups or individuals interested in news media and the Journal newsroom.
  • Support diversity and inclusion efforts across the newsroom as assigned by the Editor of Culture & Outreach, including The Wall Street Journal & Morgan State University Business Journalism Exchange and WSJ & Lehman Journo-Tech programs.
  • Work with the Culture, Training & Outreach team to ensure that all training and outreach initiatives support goals for an inclusive and diverse newsroom, and help the team to identify ways in which our newsroom can improve in these areas through training and outreach.
  • Bring a comfort level working with spreadsheets and juggling multiple tasks are expected.


The role is based in New York, but some travel is expected for supporting journalism conferences and outreach programs. You will report to the Editor of Culture, Training & Outreach.
