Features Editor - Best Magazine

LONDON, United Kingdom

JOB DESCRIPTION

At Hearst UK, there’s always more to the story. Join us as our Features Editor to start the next chapter in your career.

We’re the UK’s leading premium publisher, and the people behind iconic media brands such as Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and Country Living. We’ve created a working environment that encourages everyone to pull together. We never stop looking for brave new ideas. We’ll always try to develop and improve, we trust each other to do our best, and we have fun as we build on our heritage to make history.

The bigger weekly magazine, best is the leader in the market, packed with showbiz gossip and TV, hot high-street trends and the place to go for real opinions and straight talk that matters. Our real life features section stands out by a mile for its distinctly well-written stories that tell of authentic and powerful emotions, of love, life and everything in-between. This is a fun and fast-moving magazine to work on and we want you to join us.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Features Editor is the brand guardian, an excellent writer and editor who knows a great story for the classic market and can whip one up in no time. Passionate and quick-witted, you will be able to interview all kinds of people, in sometimes complex and emotional circumstances, as well as the plain joyful. You will also be able to come up with great ideas, commission strong pieces from freelancers and edit them to house style.

Reporting to the Deputy Editor and working closely with the Deputy Features Editor, you will help to evolve a strategy on the best working practice to produce, write and commission news, interviews and profile content, taking into account budgets.

ABOUT YOU

- You will ideally have newspaper experience, but weekly magazine print experience with proven experience as a Features deputy or above, or showing exceptional skills as a Features writer, will also be considered.

- An ability and willingness to learn about the brand and to help create the best mix of features in the market, while keeping on top of budgets and being a good manager.

- An interest and willingness to help develop the magazine’s social media posts.

WHAT WE OFFER

At Hearst UK, you can choose from a huge range of perks and benefits that can help you learn well, work well and live well including:

  • 25 days’ holiday (with the option to buy up to 5 additional holiday days)
  • Hybrid working – Two days per week in the office
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Healthcare cash plan
  • Spend a charity day with your favourite good cause
